2023 Top Images
In my long-term goal (in two decades) to achieve the 30 best photographs that evoke my viewers' emotions, I strive to take at least five of the best possible photographs each year.
2023 is the year I actively switched to Farmland Photography (Prairie), and here are a few pictures that stood out for me in 2023. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Farmland photography: June update (2023)
The ever-changing weather provided a variety of dynamic scenes, requiring quick adaptations in terms of lenses and focus. I have learned to embrace the unpredictability of nature, using it to enhance my compositions, add depth to scenes, and challenge my technical abilities. Whether it's capturing the golden hour hues or the imposing storm clouds, these experiences have shaped my approach, reminding me that patience, flexibility, and persistence are the essence of landscape photography.
Farmland photography: May update (2023)
This post explores the transformation of Alberta's landscape due to wildfires, impacting the usual springtime photography. The 2023 Alberta wildfires have devastated over 842,000 hectares, causing a stark contrast from previous lush Mays. Despite the destruction, the author turned to minimalist black and white photography to capture the unique seasonal landscape. A trip to the outskirts of Edmonton offered an opportunity to photograph stormy skies using a Fujifilm GF 20-35mmF4 lens, where the camera's in-body stabilization system effectively countered the challenges posed by the wind.

Farmland photography: March update (2023)
Embarking on a 5-year photography quest through Alberta's farmlands, the photographer braves March's chilly temps, snow showers, and elusive wildlife to capture a compelling range of prairie images. Over four excursions, the journey spans from Leduc to Devon and Legal, each uncovering unique landscapes. Despite challenges with vibrancy and lens limitations, the expedition produces a mixed bag of promising photographs, setting a hopeful tone for future endeavors.
